What Is Hypnosis?

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which the body and the conscious mind are in a relaxed state while the sub-conscience mind is awake.

The conscious mind is the seat of rational thinking, logic, judgment, will power and temporary memory. When the conscious mind is quieted, we come into contact with the sub-conscious mind, which is the seat of emotions, habits, permanent memory, and imagination.

The sub-conscience mind works much like a super computer, it does not judge information that is fed into its memory, it accepts as truth all information it receives. This function of the sub-conscious mind is a favorite tool for athletes who have learned that if they imagine themselves winning that goal or achieving that success, it will happen. The creative force of their imagination is very powerful.

How can this information help us in our every day lives? We should be careful of the information we feed to our sub-conscious mind. For instance, if you repeatedly say you are prone to colds in winter, you will undoubtedly get a cold every winter. Sometimes just knowing that you have a family history of cancer can be instrumental in causing you to actually get cancer.

The importance of hypnosis is the fact that in a relaxed state, the hypnotherapist can bypass the conscious mind and gain access to the sub-conscious mind. Once thoughts or emotions are identified through hypnosis sessions, they can be dispelled or rooted out and eliminate the cause of the problem. Then the sub-conscious mind can be re-programmed with positive thoughts, which will bring healing to the individual.

Hypnosis is not just about past lives and forgotten memories, hypnosis is about seeking out the root of the problem and helping the mind return to a healthy state, thus restoring a find balance between mind, body and spirit.
